Absentee Voting

The online portal to request a Mail-In Ballot for the 2024 Primary Election will open on Saturday April 6, 2024 and close on Tuesday May 7, 2024.  The deadline to request a ballot by mail is Tuesday, May 7, 2024.  Applications can be made by visiting the website https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/abrweb or calling our office during regular business hours at 502-348-1820 opt 7.  A valid reason is needed to request a ballot by mail. 

Acceptable reasons to request a mail-in ballot include:

  1. Age, disability or illness
  2. Student who temporarily resides outside the county of his or her residence
  3. Voter who temporarily resides outside the state, but is still eligible to vote in this state
  4. Persons whose employment location requires him to be absent from the county all hours and all days absentee voting by machine is conducted

Mail-in ballots must be received by the County Clerk’s office by Election Day (May 21, 2024) by 6:00PM.  Ballot can either by mailed, the voter must pay return postage ($1.63), or dropped in the drop boxes at the County Clerk’s office.  Ballots received after Election Day at 6:00PM will not be counted.

Drop Box Locations: 

  1. Inside the Election Office at the County Clerk’s office – Main Floor accessible during regular business hours.
  2. Outside by the Front Door – accessible 24/7

Excused, In-Person Absentee Voting will be held at the County Clerk’s Office Wednesday May 8, Thursday May 9, Friday May 10, Monday May 13, Tuesday May 14 and Wednesday May 15 during regular business hours.

Acceptable reasons to vote In-Person Absentee include:

  1. Voter who has not been declared by a court of competent jurisdiction and, due to age, disability, or illness, is not able to appear at the polls on Election Day and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.
  2. Student who temporarily resides outside the county of his or her residence and will be absent from the county on Election Day and all days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting.
  3. Voter who temporarily resides outside the state, but is still eligible to vote in this state and will be absent from the county of his or her residence on Election Day and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting
  4. Voter who is in her last trimester of pregnancy
  5. Voter who is employed in an occupation that is scheduled to work during all days and hours, including commute time, that the polls are open on Election Day and during the days of no-excuse in-person absentee voting
  6. Voter who is an election officer tasked with election administration for the current election cycle.
  7. Voter, or spouse of the voter, who has surgery scheduled that will require hospitalization on the day of an election and during the days of no-excuse absentee voting

No-Excuse In-Person Early Voting will be held on Thursday May 16, Friday May 17, and Saturday May 18 from 8:00AM to 4:00PM at the main branch of the Nelson County Public Library at 201 Cathedral Manor Bardstown.  ANY REGISTERED VOTER IN NELSON COUNTY MAY VOTE EARLY.
